tailscale/scripts/join-systemd.sh:13Running the join scripts on a host without Tailscale executes whatever tailscale.com (or a TLS/DNS-compromised path) returns, with no checksum or pinned version check. Same construct exists in tailscale/scripts/join-userspace.sh:24. The code is not attacker-controlled input, but it is an unverified remote code channel reachable whenever the operator runs the script.

Exploitation requires control of the invoking user's environment, which already implies user-level code execution, so impact is limited to that user (sudo applies only to tailscaled).

tailscale/scripts/status.sh:36The predictable shared-/tmp filename is followed by shell redirection, so a local attacker could pre-create it as a symlink or file, causing the operator's run to overwrite or clobber an unintended user-writable file. Tailscale helper scripts are operator-run and mostly sound; the main risk is piping a downloaded installer into sh plus minor env-var/tmux and /tmp hardening gaps.
Rule (2026-10-24): when a dynamic conclusion exists it is authoritative (it may raise or lower the level); without one, the static/vet fused tier applies. The audit never writes the exemption list (exemptions are manual only); a wrong conclusion is withdrawn by human review and the tier falls back to static/vet.
