index.js:591The fence on /launcher/api/stop, /restart, /settings/set and /extra-roots/set accepts any Origin whose hostname equals the Host hostname, so a page served from another port on 127.0.0.1 passes; the handlers JSON.parse(req body) without checking Content-Type, so a cross-origin simple (text/plain) POST from any localhost page can stop the DSH server, write the HKCU Run autostart entry, or persist attacker-chosen extra install roots that the desktop launcher later executes. Requests without an Origin header are also accepted unconditionally.

index.js:366shortcutName comes straight from the tool arguments (agent/model controlled). With a value such as '..\..\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\x' the bundled launcher exe is copied outside the Desktop, and removeLegacyLnk (join(desktopDir, `${shortcutName}.lnk`)) deletes a same-named .lnk anywhere the user can write. The written payload is the benign whale launcher, so impact is a clobber/persistence primitive rather than arbitrary code.

index.js:77The plugin copies this opaque binary into ~/.dsh/launcher and onto the Desktop (copyLauncherExe/placeDesktopExe) and writes it into HKCU Run via autostartCommand (`"${LAUNCHER_EXE}" --boot`). Its behaviour cannot be verified from the audited source, so a tampered package or supply-chain compromise would gain silent execution at every login.
Self-installing Windows launcher plugin: real risks are a weak same-origin fence on its loopback routes (local CSRF) and unvalidated shortcutName path traversal; no remote RCE found.
Rule (2026-10-24): when a dynamic conclusion exists it is authoritative (it may raise or lower the level); without one, the static/vet fused tier applies. The audit never writes the exemption list (exemptions are manual only); a wrong conclusion is withdrawn by human review and the tier falls back to static/vet.
